Filewile
On The Run feat. Pedro Da Silva Pinto
Filewile clearly had an excellent time touring South Africa for the « Blueskywell » album release last winter. They felt well at home inside the dancehalls of Jo’burg, Cape Town, Dar Es Salaam and Maputo. As Filewile are not a band drawn to hanging out on the beach for long, but always eager to collaborate on yet another dubbed out venture, the follow up to the last single « Number One Kid » was bound to happen: A sun trenched Reggae tune full of soul and troubled lyrics in the finest conscious Reggae tradition. Uncertain if the trouble comes from a torn soul, torn country or both, « On the Run » tells of broken hearts and broken homes in troubled times. Hailing from Mozambique, singer Pedro Da Silva Pinto (frontman to the band 340ml) masters a silken voice that mingles beautifully with Filewile’s knee deep Reggae and Joy Frempong’s floating backing vocals. The b-side carries a classic Dub version of the same tune. Heavy steppin’ up in this!

Planant. L’agitation R&B dont Sly and the Family Stone porte l’étendard, modifie la donne. Allez savoir…

English version
Flying high. Thursday, April 8 th, Bataclan (Paris) could not believe it. On stage, the Maze family and its very charismatic Frankie Beverly leader, really turned the audience on. French fans had been waiting for this moment since… ? By the way, when was Maze’s last appearance on a french scene ? Anyways, the miracle finally occured. A terrific moment due to a french guy named Loïc, from Groove Production. A promoter who works with the “who’s who” of soul-funk music. Thanks to “Magic Loïc”, Frenchies can see live George Clinton, Earth Wind & Fire feat. Al Mac Kay, Roy Ayers, Bootsy Collins, Zapp, Cameo… Having burnt out the Bataclan with Maze, Loïc repeats it all on April 17th with Larry Graham. Same place, same time. Dynamic without being aggressive, the music of Maze is synonymous of soul. Founded in Philadelphia, this band has collected platinum discs for a long time without overwhelming the charts. Howard Beverly, the leader, early begins his musical career within doo-wop bands (The Blenders, The Buttlers). Things change with the R&B bustle carried out by Sly and the Family Stone. Beverly, who names himself Frankie (tribute to his idol Frankie Lymon), founds Raw Soul. At the beginning of 1977, suddenly emerges Maze feat. Frankie Beverly. Californians Robin Duhe (bass) and Wayne Thomas (guitar) join the group which turns the audiences on during terrific tours. After, we all know what happened. The mystical aura which surrounds this musical family, taken along by the smooth voice and the phlegm of Frankie Beverly, continues today and more than ever, to take along a faithful public. An honest sound, which still turns on turntables and in the hearts. Perhaps because it is true music. Who knows… Sheidia @SoulFlower
Matt Flores & Henry L – Floating EP

Matt Flores & Henry L
Floating EP
Farside Records is very excited to present the first collaboration of Matt Flores & Henry L with this wonderful “Floating EP”.
Matt Flores recent/upcoming releases on labels like Compost Black, Combination, Third Ear and of course Farside put him in the focus of the worldwide house circle. Actually “Tempted” was produced by Matt with the concept of an album in mind. Even more glad that he has been assured by the idea that the track has to be out on 12inch vinyl.
Heartfelt, kickin´ and deep, “Tempted” might be one of the greatest tunes that ever saw the light out of Matt Flores Metaworld Universe. Get caught by the beautiful harmonies and the demanding groove.
“Low Tide” is the first ever production teamwork of Matt Flores & Henry L (of Farside & upcoming Drumpoet fame). And what a killer combination that is. Henry L shows his amazing skills in creating the sexiest grooves around and Matt Flores adds some killer synths to this deep & floating monster tune. You can call it deep house, slow funk or whatever.
Even though the “Floating EP” is more on the slower & deeper side, expect some heavy bassline business from these two guys as well. No wonder as both are also busy in the drum & bass scene for years. Henry L aka Henree is part of the Triad duo that released some dope tunes via Soul:R or CIA with an upcoming Omar Remix on Peppermint Jam. He also used to DJ on Cologne based “Tatort” drum & bass jams with Matt Flores aka MC My-T on the mic. So it was about time to finally come together productionwise for a deep, moving and awesome “Floating EP”.

For Juan Five EP
Aniligital Music is back at it with Anothny Mansfield and Tal M. Klein and their evil ways! Building upon the successes of their previous collaborations, the villainous duo raises the stakes and take things deeper with this enigmatically titled three tracker.
Ciento Ocho is Spanish for 108, the tempo of the first track on the EP. A creepy crawly builder with 8-bit roots that culminate in a HUGE funk breakdown with an insidious bass hook (If you have any doubt, just fast forward 3 minutes into the track)
Next up is Desayuno en Timpani’s which we think means Breakfast At Timpani’s in Spanish. Needless to say this one’s heavy on the percussive elements, including of course lots and lots of timpani drums. Desayuno en Timpani’s gets going pretty quickly and doesn’t let up. Check the flanged upright bass breakdown for extra bigness! Purely non-stop huge sound system busting dancefloor action.
