As a new force on the scene, Düsseldorfer John Gazoo has never as such sought after the stage, or critical recognition. His solo project combines many different musical facets, which stand out and hit heavy, with a versatile concept that is constantly being expanded and refined.
His productions reflect year round musical curiosity, experience and fresh experimentation, through which his daily musical perception is formed.
As a graduate Modernist (Mods- English youth culture,) his roots lie in Jazz and Soul; a musical style that is likewise multi-facetted, and the foundation of all his ideas to come, back when John was very young.
When Gilles Peterson once staged an all-nighter in London, John, driven by Jazz Fever, packed a bag, pulled the Vespa out of the garage, and embarked on a club searching road trip – an unforgettable experience of his early youth.
The later ’work’ in record shops during the 90’s deepened his interest in music as a profession –finding new creativity, he discovered House Music, and dedicated himself to studio work. For John, like the whole electronic music movement, Kraftwerk (who occasionally turned up next door in a Düsseldorf studio) were a huge inspiration.
Meanwhile, several years have passed, and today Gazoo doesn’t get quite so carried away, as he knows exactly where he should be going. His releases on ’Compost’, ’Raw Cutz’, ’Puzzle Trax’ and his home based label ’Le Cirque’, indicate precisely this musical direction.
As winner of the Compost remix contest, he easily convinced the label with his interpretation of Alif Tree’s ’Aurevoir’ (,which got lots of plays by the Jazz Rooms guys, Jazzy Sport crew, Blair Stafford, Gilles, Mr Trueby and others) so that now his first own release comes out on Compost Disco.

You could probably live without bad Jazz, but you don’t want to miss the Bad JazzTroupe! Disregarding any kind of mindless rule – musical or otherwise – this reckless band revamps traditional rhythms and styles with modern production techniques. The
Bad Jazz Troupe brings together raw Afrobeat, Jazz and Funk elements with the latest achievements of the electronic revolution in the world of music. The result sounds fresh and original and yet reminds one of those days when Jazz was still something
unruly, naughty and rebellious. What the Bad Jazz Troupe seeks to accomplish, after all, is nothing but bad jazz in the best sense.
The initiators of the project are two „bad“ boys in otherwise quiet and peaceful Munich, Germany. Jerker Kluge, much sought-after bassist and composer (The Boogoos, The Hi-Fly Orchestra, Cesar’s Salad, Radio Utopia), provides an invaluable musical basis with selected players of the local Jazz and Funk scene. Their organic sound is infused with energetic beats and hypnotic loops by Dj, producer and labelhead Dusty (Jazz & Milk). Already in 2009 he created a dancefloor hit by remixing the Afro-Funk of The Boogoos. Back then Jerker and Dusty decided that they will continue acting in collusion and so they founded the Bad Jazz Troupe.
In the band’s live performances highly skilled and creative musicians merge sophisticated arrangements with brilliant improvisations on top of Dusty’s inimitable percussive beats.
Purists also get a chance to experience this sound at thome: on the A side of the vinyl EP they will find an electroacoustic fusion of musicians and producer and on the B side the original studio recordings of the band.
Keep your eyes open for upcoming live gigs and an entire album by the Bad Jazz Troupe.

Voltage Controlled Feelings’ is the sonic testimony of more than two decades of serious electro, funk and boogie studies from Swedish synth commander Opolopo!
Blending epic Blade Runner soundscapes and Krautrock sequencer lines into cruising west coast beats and beyond, he proves that science fiction and funk are not only compatible, but have always belonged together. ‘Voltage Controlled Feelings’ is a newly discovered planet orbiting a distant star, that also pays homage to the synthesizers, drum machines and the artists who influenced Opolopo’s music. Echoes of Prince, Herbie Hancock, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Isao Tomita can be heard throughout the album.
Fellow electronauts include L.A. vocalist Erik Rico, known for his work with Marc Mac and Tupac Shakur, Farah from the UK hit collective Incognito, Toronto-based jazz vocalist Sacha Williamson and Stockholm-based vocal talent Amalia Miz Fuze Townsend.
